Mungret
St Nessan's Church
St Nessans is named after the founder of the abbey at Mungret. It is a simple 12th century rectangular building with high pitched gables. Access to the church is through a narrow stile at the north west corner of the building. There is a gorgeous lintelled doorway built into the west gable, but unfortunately there is a modern barrier with a gate built in close proximity to the doorway making it impossible to view it properly. The church is situated by the side of old Limerick Road and is the first of the ruined churches you will come across on your way to the monastic site at Mungret.
Situated:From Limerick take the N69 south. At the South circular junction take a left turn at the 2nd roundabout onto the R 510. Take a right turn at the 2nd roundabout, remaining on the R 510. The church is on your left.
